There are a number of pre-schools and schools in Guangzhou for foreign children. Most are located either in or close to expatriate residential areas. Fees can be more expensive than abroad. The quality of teaching is generally high, but can vary. It is advisable to talk to both school staff and the parents of pupils before enrolling your child. Pupils must hold a foreign passport to be enrolled at the following schools:

PRE-SCHOOLS

China Hotel International Pre-School

International pre-school for children aged 2 to 6. Lessons are held from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 12:00pm. Classes: 2-3.5 yrs: max 10 children, 3.5-4.5 yrs max 7 children, 4.5-5.5 yrs max 14 children. Each class has a teacher and an assistant.

Garden International Pre-school and American International School combined in June of 1999. International Pre-school is for children aged 2-5. Three classes, 2-3 yrs, 3-4 yrs and 4-5 yrs. For 2-3 and 3-4 yr classes, fees approx. US$ 220 per month. Lessons held Monday-Friday 8:30am to 11:45am. For 4-5 yr class, fees US$520 per month and lessons held Monday-Friday 8:30am to 2:00pm.Fees are paid by turn. Each class is limited to 10 to 15 children with a teacher and a assistant with teaching license. A Summer Program is also available for children of all ages. 

Golden Arch International Pre-school

International Pre-school for children aged 2 to 5. Classes held Monday to Thursday 8:45am to 11:45. Chinese program available on Friday. Student teacher ratio 1:5. Two teachers per class. Present enrollment around 35 pupils. Fees US$840 per term, three terms per annum.

Established 1981 and registered in China with an International School Accreditation AIS is the largest international school in Guangzhou. It follows an American curriculum from kindergarten (age 5) through grade 12 (18 years). Pupils from over 20 countries, less than 30% American. Student teacher ratio around 15:1. School buses operate from and to most expat hotels and apartments. School fees approx. US$14,000 per year.

A school of 800 pupils (over 90% Chiese). Some foreign teachers, managed and operated by the International School Services (ISS), Princeton, New Jersey. Clifford School provides a comprehensive international academic program from Kindergarten (age 3) to secondary school (age 15). There are 20 classes and Class size averages 30 pupils. Each class has two Chinese and one foreign teacher. Fees are RMB Y48,000 per year for kindergarten, Y54,000 for primary school and Y56,000 for secondary school.

For children aged 2-15. Classes held daily in English. Situated 6Km on ShaTai Highway (35 mins from city centre) at Golden lake apartment complex. School buses available from all major hotels. Pupils are from over 40 nationalities. Australian Director (Mr Lester Ward) with British, Australian and Canadian teachers. 20 classes and Student/pupil ratio approx 1:20. Fees for kindergarten per term: US$1,630 for years 2, US$1,900 for years 3-4 and US$2,365 for years 4-5. Fees for Primary 1-5 per term: US$2,560. Fees for middle school per term: US$3,500.

  Guangzhou Grace Acedemy belongs to a worldwide family of schools using the school of Tomorrow curriculum. The school follows the French CNED-programme. Classes are in French. Less than 25 pupils at present, mostly French but some Europeans too. Pre-school fees: US$ 5,500 (part-time) US$ 7,700 (full-time). Primary school: US$ 11,000. Secondary school: US$ 12,000 per annum.

Guangzhou Japanese School

A Japanese nationality is required to enter the school. Elementary (Primary) school is for children aged 7-12, and Junior high school (middle school) is for students aged 13-15. The school system is the same in Japan. No pre-school or a kindergarten is available. Fees: RMB Y7,000 for an entrance, HKD 3,200 per month.
