Blooming azaleas attract visitors

Spring is the perfect time for Guangzhou citizens to enjoy flowers at Mingzhu Lake located at Baiyun Mountain where various kinds of azaleas have begun blossoming.

Azaleas have been planted at Mount Baiyun since the 1970's. Nowadays, there are about 25,000 azaleas of six species growing in an area of over 9,000 square meters. 

Of all the azaleas there are several unique ones that each have three-colored flowers - white, pink and aubergine. Some flowers are white merged with pink and aubergine.

Experts say that due to the cold weather, flowering is late this year. Therefore, the blossoms would get bigger and more beautiful. As for the flowers of three colors, experts explain that they are variants caused by global warming as well as other factors such as cross-pollination.
