Guangdong kicked off its third wild sparrow-watching festival in Qingyuan on March 17.

The event will run through May 16, and organizers hope the chance to enjoy the wild sparrows will raise residents' awareness of the need to protect the birds. They also expect it to boost the local tourism industry.

There will also be a sparrow-themed photography exhibition at the city's Niuyuzui Scenic Spot. Wild sparrows are currently under State protection.

The organizers have built many special towers for watching the birds.
