Guangzhou Provincial Flower Markets Listed as Non-Material Heritage

The flower markets that Guangzhou citizens never miss each year have been listed in the Guangdong Provincial Non-material Heritage archives. Our reporter learned from authorities of Yuexiu District that over 500 old photos showing the flower markets of Guangzhou's Spring Festival will soon be displayed to the public for the first time. The photos, collected by the Yuexiu Archives Bureau, show the flower markets that have existed on Xihu Road for over 200 years.

According to the principal spokesperson of the Yuexiu Culture Bureau, the Guangdong Provincial Government released the second batch of Provincial Non-Material Heritage archives at the end of June this year. More than 104 items including the Five-Ram Legend were included. And, among others, the Guangzhou Flower Market photos originating from Yuexiu District were also included.

On December 17, 2007, the principals from all the districts convened 2008 Guangzhou Flower Market Arrangement Meeting at the city hall.This year¡äs flower markets celebrating Guangzhou's Spring Festival, will kick off on February 4, 2008.
Ten flower markets will be set up in total:
¡ñ Yuexiu Xihu Flower Market on Jiaoyu Road and Xihu Road;
¡ñ Yuexiu Donghu Flower Market on Dashatou 3rd Road;
¡ñ Liwan Flower Market on Liwanbei Road;
¡ñ Haizhu Flower Market on Binjiangxi Road and Baogang Road;
¡ñ Tianhe Flower Market inside of Tianhe Sports Center;
¡ñ Huangpu Flower Market inside of Huangpu Sports Stadium;
¡ñ Baiyun Flower Market on Yuanjing Road of Tangjing Street;
¡ñ Luogang Flower Market on Qingnian Road;
¡ñ Panyu Flower Market on Shengtai Road;
¡ñ Huadu Flower Market on Yongfa Road (inside of Nanfang Flower Wholesale Trade Center).

The flower markets in Yuexiu, Liwan, Haizhu, Tianhe, Huangpu, Baiyun districts open for three days, from 8:30 a.m. on February 4 to 2:00 a.m. on February 7. The flower markets will end at 12:00 p.m. on February 4 and 5, and extend to 2:00 a.m. on February 7. The flower markets in Luogang District open for 5 days, from 8:30 a.m. on February 2 to 2:00 a.m. on February 7. The flower markets in Panyu District open for 7 days, from 8:30 a.m. on January 31 to 2:00 a.m. on February 7. And the flower markets in Huadu District open for 10 days, from 8:30 a.m. on January 28 to 2:00 a.m. on February 7.
